Dream Arc 36 – the Descent: Humanity

The 36th Dream Arc (13-17 March) is a Path of Humanity through Turbulence to Compassion.  The creatures are Squirrel (the Gift), Salamander (the Shadow) and Nuthatch (the Siddhi).

This little chap looks like my good friends  at the Castle climbing wall!  We rope together on Sundays. We are somewhat senior.

(If you are a Gene Keys student you may relate the Arcs to the 11 spheres in your profile, or use the I Ching oracle.  Otherwise, drink from the well … (NB – the exact date where each Arc begins is based on the Sun’s zodiac degree which oscillates slightly from year to year: check with the gene keys website.  Find out about
The Dream Arc on this link.  This post is one of a cycle of 64 around the year with the I Ching; you will find the rest in “Archive of all Posts” behind the trigram door on the left of this page.)

Sketch for Jesus by the lake of Galilee (1968) – his silhouette is in the background of the crowd, looking out over the water.

In the Zodiacal sequence, the 22nd and 36th Gene Keys   share a depth of resonance.  In 22 it is said that “Karma is shared, because humanity is one entity.”  Our Humanity (36th Gift on the Codon Ring of Divinity) opens to redemptive Compassion, the Siddhi. I discover as I work between the gene keys around the zodiac, their mutual tincturing.

From last week, an interesting thought evolves through the 22nd Gift about Karma. The Karma is stamped into the collective DNA of humanity where it must be eventually redressed.  Nowadays all of it erupts – the ancient poisons abreact and react; a seemingly destructive expansion.

Yet the VISION OF THE TRANSMISSION holds that something unprecedented is about to occur.  That oil slick  exhausted its period and an environment is being created where it cannot thrive – as patterns of behaviour change from the root – and the mess en masse will start to drop away from human hips towards a place for its evolution – nothing goes to waste. Its reactivity at present is in survival mode.  As it struggles to hold its ground and to lock up the wealth, souls are born – new generations – who have no room for it.  Our mutating DNA lattice does not accommodate it.  This process might take decades, perhaps centuries in our time, and for a short time appears to get worse.  Yet it is happening with great rapidity.  We all are aware of an “acceleration” in many dimensions.

What lenses do you and I see it through?  I sense golden and black bands, like a bumble bee.

I drew this bumble bee when I was five

Philosophy is “the love for wisdom”.  I try to cultivate  gratitude, inspiration and the creative reality of magnificent souls around the globe: Sanctity.   Keep my 61st lifework going, day and night.  Convert my negative feelings into their extraordinary energy potential. As we all have to now, wash hands a lot more often than before; explore and respect novel ways to greet each other. The corona virus can be our teacher.  Be practical, considerate … and TRUST the higher power.  The default idiom – the easiest to buy into – is over-informed pessimism.  In the depth of my field of lived life, the Fact is the higher frequency through which the eagle sees the truth (63), the love (22) and the COMPASSION (36).

Here is the pencil outline for the Dream arc:

Looking up images of Salamander for 36th Shadow (Turbulence) just now, I found the common salamander has black and yellow markings like the bumble bee mentioned above.  After starting the new drawing, I looked up 36 in the book.  It says the 36th shadow is the soul’s Dark Night whose purity is lust.  I sketched two salamanders who “tao” blindly around in the turbulence at base; and I’ll light a little fire under them.

The hexagram is Earth over Fire, a sacred symbol where the hearth is banked for the night.  But earth is also thrown over fire to darken, conceal or put it out.  The hexagram in the I Ching is called “darkening of the light”.

The Gift – Humanity – is subtitled “The Spirit Descending”.  In my sketch  both Nuthatch and Squirrel descend the oak tree.  The squirrel has its limbs outstretched to embrace the wood, with its tail flagging out to balance.  The nuthatch also dips downward and sings.  Compassion?  It will have clear sky around it.  The Gift (squirrel) of Humanity makes a triad with the salamanders.  Humanity quests down into the deep dark night of the soul to find the gold and to redeem the lost.

This is a marvellous gene key.  Its essence is the Saviour.  Yeshua.

When I was small I was very fond of squirrels and drew them with huge tails like pods; like the heads of my children which filled the whole page.  The drawing to the right was done many years later to recapture that feeling.  How it presages the 36th Dream Arc with bird, humanity and squirrel!

Dies Irae” – “Out of the depths we cried to Thee” … The salamanders might be scientists who cannot agree; or lovers who cannot get on.   they desire the union.

After religious doctrine has had its say, Yeshua and Magdalena come together again.  I didn’t want to paint the grail vessel between them.  I left it unfinished to barely suggest its possibility.  We turn within our relationship to see for ourselves: the divine gift is no object. The divine gift is human.

In the Indian pantheon are also the Ashwin twin gods – like the squirrel, their long arm reaches down to the mariner’s cry for help.

In the Dream Arc painting as it progresses the formidable salamanders alarm the bold curious squirrel who clings to the tree.  Near the nuthatch  is a nest-hole containing two young.  The nuthatch is actually a tiny bird.  The creatures are drawn as they appear in allegory, in my mind’s eye.

What is my feeling with this Key?  I planned to draw it dark and deep as if inside a well, but the textures around the salamanders became so interesting that they stay illumined; so I invite you to imagine the darkness.  The squirrel’s quest illumines it. My squirrel was scared of the night of the soul and now it can see what is there.

When I try to question myself, I see my squirrel. What makes us human? The asking within – whether or not I touch the fear base.  In the 36th Siddhi are the Beatitudes.  “Why must I suffer?”

St John Of the Cross – a free adaptation by Julia Skiff

On a dark night,
Kindled in love with yearnings – oh, happy chance! –
I went forth without being observed,
My house being now at rest.

In darkness and secure,
By the secret ladder, disguised–oh, happy chance!–
In darkness and in concealment,
My house being now at rest.

In the happy night,
In secret, when none saw me,
Nor I beheld aught,
Without light or guide, save that which burned in my heart.

This light guided me
More surely than the light of noonday
To the place where he (well I knew who!) was awaiting me –
A place where none appeared.

Oh, night that guided me,
Oh, night more lovely than the dawn,
Oh, night that joined Beloved with lover,
Lover transformed in the Beloved!

Upon my flowery breast,
Kept wholly for himself alone,
There he stayed sleeping, and I caressed him,
And the fanning of the cedars made a breeze.

The breeze blew from the turret
As I parted his locks;
With his gentle hand he wounded my neck
And caused all my senses to be suspended.

I remained, lost in oblivion;
My face I reclined on the Beloved.
All ceased and I abandoned myself,
Leaving my cares forgotten among the lilies.

The dark night of the soul is the valley which uplifts to bliss.  Some of those nights are like an infinite enclosure; an individual and personal thing in the land of poets and the over-sensitive; a brooding feature of the creative process.  The dark night is a place of retreat, tension and non-response.  The poets Gerard Manly Hopkins, Francis Thompson and St John of the Cross broke out from it with rhythmic rhymes like mountains at dawn.

Detail from painting of the Cornish china clay-tips by Lionel Miskin, circa 1956

Jack Clemo, bard of the white Cornish clay-tip mining country was blind, deaf and dumb in a devastated landscape – but every now and then vision, hearing and speech broke up through him like a pure spring for a few days or weeks and he wrote his virile verse – like D H Lawrence’s coal mine in reverse.

“Why should I find him here
and not in a church, nor yet
where nature heaves a breast like Olivet
against the stars?  I peer
upon His footsteps in this quarried mud;
I see His blood
in rusty stains on pit-props, wagon-frames
bristling with nails, not leaves.  There were no leaves
upon His chosen Tree,
no parasitic flowering over shames
of Eden’s primal infidelity;

just splintered wood and nails
were fairest blossoming for Him who speaks
where mica-silt outbreaks
like water from the side of His own clay
in that strange day
when He was pierced … “

Jack Clemo – from “Christ in the clay tip”

I have a soul, a field ever bared
to the Heaven of miracle,
lying within the ancestral vomits, yet
fresh with the tang of surf where seaweeds fret
unblasted rock.  Thus, I am spared;
and to my gravelly land
Christ brings from margins of His sea
the golden treasure, spilling secretly –
His fertilising sand.

The soul’s dark night is a goldmine for the Water of Life.  It resonates the Well in gene key 48.  Turbulence obscures the vision.  You cannot see or feel the truth through broken waters.   In a turgid soul there is dislocation, there is fear, projection and blame.  The turbulence is addictive, for it releases fight-or-flight hormones which become integral to the sufferer’s identity. Turbulence is collective at present in our world; it is sought and praised and pressured.  Identifying turbulence;  step quietly aside from its mainstream media.

The 36th Gene Key is a nexus of great courage.  It takes courage for my squirrel to descend towards those powerful enigmatic lizards and have a conversation with them.  Do their great black eyes see, or are they dazzled in the approaching conscious light?  They seem to clutch the world’s wealth.  At the squirrel’s back is the descent of  22nd Grace as 36’s Compassion Siddhi.   The bird with her piercing mellow song runs down the tree like a mouse or butterfly wing;  the Divine gift of Humanity’s odyssey of enquiry and empathy.  She is a Mother of Compassion: Notre Dame herself. She is discreet among the leaves.  Find the nuthatch’s song online or out in the woods and let it stroke your spine – the sweetest of small birds.

There is transformation in the DNA when we turn around of our own accord to face the light, truth, love:  to start to move and change a Shadow deep within.  Metanoia in the Christian mystic tradition and in the middle east means: to turn.  It is the literal translation for “repentance”.

Loaves and fishes – Christ breaks bread with beggars and lepers

..

The squirrel builds up a store of nuts for the winter; are those the nuggets under the lizard guardianship? The allegory is with the bankers.  Something is going on here: a movement of connection; a contact with a primordial human fear of loss of territory.  Something is touched. Something must collapse into the gold standard which is truth.  It might be through the nuthatch song.

I found this painting of nuthatches by Eileen A Soper on Clive Bennett’s beautiful website Art in Nature

Compassion is the Siddhi, the wisdom of the Buddhas; and it is all-encompassing: the passion of Yeshua the Christ to descend into and liberate the human hell.

Next week’s Gene Key on the Dream Arc is 25 – “The Myth of the Sacred Wound” – which also directly explores suffering.  It is wondrous how the keys – like piano keys – play the music around the Circle and the living oracle deepens.

The 36th path “is the flowering of suffering itself – the fragrance released after the storm is over … this Siddhi has to be earned … their pleasures and their pain, their aches and longings, their vices and their virtues” (RR).

Be salt of the earth!  The programming partner in the I Ching is 6: the Peace where conflict accepts each side.

Dream arc 6 – the heart of conflict is peace

Darkenings of the light are evolutionary.  Like bread we are pounded down, to rise.  “This Gene Key allows certain miraculous leaps of consciousnessduring crisis or war or working among the poor and wretched … they are the most heart-melting people ever to walk the face of the earth”(RR).

It is helpful to stand and realise that the chaotic turbulence of the Change brings out untold numbers of these great souls who go into action.  Each great soul is the human race as a whole.  Each “I” is a bay of the ocean: of the Sermon on the Mount.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”

Gene keys palm Mudra 36 – the Siddhi of Compassion. “If you break a twig I am there. Compassion is in everything; and you are everything … Compassion is a fragrance given off by our DNA as it activates its highest components. If we’ve ever been around a being of pure grace, an enlightened one, we might pick up this fragrance. It’s not olfactory, it’s the higher octave of our normal sense of smell. It’s the aroma of grace, the smell of the pure light, and once we’ve remembered it, we can never, never forget it.” (Richard Rudd, 64 Ways)

The 36th Mineral Key: Sulphur

sulphur symbols

Definitions from symboldictionary.net:

A symbol for the alchemical element Sulfur, (Brimstone) which is spiritually analogous to the human soul. Alchemically, sulfur has the qualities of masculine, hot and dry. Combined with Mercury (feminine, cool and moist), the pair were considered the parents of all metals.

Sulfur, salt and mercury constitute the alchemical triad.

Alchemical drawings often portray Sulfur as the sun. (In some views, sulfur and salt are the parents of Mercury).  … This glyph (figure of eight and Latin & equal-arm cross) has no history as a symbol of Satanism outside of Anton LaVey’s usage in the 1960s … it is often compared in this context to the Catholic Pontifical Cross. A more common symbol for sulfur is a fire triangle surmounting a cross of earth

Afterthought – I found this in an old journal

Pause! The roe-deer pauses in the woods, to persevere. The cat pauses while washing; the squirrel while nutting.

The exciting way of relationship is to travel the paths like capillaries or the branches of elms in the sky, with unlimited love. The squirrel shimmies and leaps from tree across to tree in one flow of the branch. These branches of friendship and human connectivity warm the veins. No matter what situation on the world’s notice board, this is true here and now, it is the only answer. What is here is elsewhere; and what is true is tantra, the web of the Universe. Who can create it? You and I, right now, as we are. This needs all our strength and commitment. Pessimism is a cop-out.

Thank you Midi Berry for this!
